  4. Click on play at the bottom of this slide to hear a message from Angela.

  5. What will I do in my Reception Class?

  6. When I arrive at school I hang up my coat and bag on my peg.

  7. I have to wash my hands regularly. My teacher will remind me.

  8. There are lots of different activities to choose from.

  9. Sometimes I will learn by myself, I can ask for help and sometimes I will learn in a group.

  10. Important things to remember 1. Please name EVERYTHING in permanent marker with your child’s name and class. Biro washes off quickly. Coats, hats, gloves, JUMPERS, school shirts, trousers. Alternatively you can buy iron-on or stick on name labels online. Never bring a brand- new school jumper to school that isn’t marked. 2. Check that your child’s winter coat has a zip that is easy to do up. Practise putting on and doing up coats; it is really helpful as it develops children’s independence. 3. When choosing school shoes and trainers , ones with Velcro instead of shoelaces are helpful for younger children. Shoes need to be sensible, flat, black shoes. 4. Help your child feel comfortable and able to go to the toilet themselves. Encourage them to be independent and able to look after themselves. 5. Read through the ‘starting school checklist’, don’t worry if your child is not able to do all the things on the list. Support them in developing these skills.

  11. The checklist on the following two pages are a guide for you Getting Ready for to follow. School - Checklist It would be very helpful if you could support your child in reaching these milestones during the holidays. Don’t worry if your child has not yet reached some of the milestones in their development…they will come!

  12. Remember to find time to do this booklet with your child over the summer. It’s best to do one page a day rather than all at once. Please bring it into school to share with Angela, your class teacher.
