BRIDGI IDGING T NG THE HE GAP GAP [Put text here] WCRMEO/NDN Partnership approved by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners in October 2017 The Goal: By reporting all deaths in Washoe County that occur outside of a hospital to Nevada Donor Network, more registered donors will have their wishes regarding donation honored, and more families will be given the opportunity to choose donation for their loved ones as a lasting legacy.
BENE NEFIT ITS O OF TIS ISSUE DO DONA NATIO ION [Put text here] Tissue and cornea donation is possible for up to 24 hours after cardiac death and can provide lifesaving and/or healing benefits to 75 or more people. Every year, 1 million tissue transplants take place in the United States, as well as nearly 50,000 cornea transplants. • Heart valves can save lives, including pediatric patients • Corneas will give the gift of sight to two people • Tendons, ligaments and bone can be used in trauma surgeries and to repair injuries • Skin grafts are used for burn victims and for reconstructive surgeries such as mastectomies • Blood vessels are used for bypass surgeries and to restore circulation

LET LIF IFE BLOOM CAM CAMPAIG IGN [Put text here] • National campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, typically designed for hospitals • Encourages organizations to educate their employees and the public about the importance of donation and registration • WCRMEO was the first medical examiner’s office to enroll in the program and included all Washoe County departments in their efforts
