WARD RESTRUCTURING Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands
BACKGROUND • At Council’s request, the Clerk’s Department brought a Ward Restructuring report in November 2015. • The report outlined 5 ward restructuring options and the consideration of reducing the number of representatives from 7 to 5. • Council directed staff to hold information sessions to gather input from the residents.
OPTIONS 1)Option 1 - remain status quo 2)Option 2 - 2 ward structure split by east and west 3)Option 3 - 3 ward structure split equally vertically 4) Option 4 - 4 ward structure split equally by North-west quadrant, North-east quadrant, South-west quadrant, and South-east quadrant, with a reduction of Council members from 7 to 5 5)Option 5 - abolish the ward system all Council members would be elected at large, potentially with a reduction of Council members from 7 to 5
