Definition of S. • Sus•tain•a•bil•i•ti , noun: The use of the term sustainability was popularized by the World Commission on Environment and Development (The Brundtland Commission), in its report “ Our Common Future, ” which defined the term, as “ meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs ” (Brundtland, 1987). • The definition by Gus Speth provides an economic perspective: “ living off nature ’ s income rather than consuming its capital ” (Speth, 2004)
