ACE Due Diligence Findings • Trustees & Sponsors appreciate the credibility of ACE as a third‐ party voice • Many Trustees and Sponsors believe there is a big opportunity to raise the bar on educating consumers (including Mommy Bloggers conversations to discuss facts that industry can’t) • Ongoing concerns about this ingredient, that ingredient, etc. so these conversations are not going away • Important work on air care can be expanded and strengthened by working more closely w/HCPA Communications & Marketing
Due Diligence Findings • SPONSOR CAMPAIGNS —Recent Healthy Starts at Home Campaign (September 17‐October 28, 2018) was successful and focused on correct use, correct storage and correct disposal of household products • The upcoming Home Care Campaign has great promise (next phase will highlight Febreze and air care products) and is being funded by P&G • The campaign will aim to change the messaging around air care fresheners from negative to positive with scientifically‐based information to counter negative messaging • RB/Lysol will be the second sponsor in the project
Due Diligence Findings • Charitable Registrations in 37 states have clearly not panned out • Don’t partner with other major trades that have similar‐type of initiatives (ACI/GMA, PCPC, etc.) • Funding from only a few major companies puts long‐term viability of ACE at significant risk • Less focus on Inhalant Abuse (respond when we have to), Recycling, etc. and more focus on positive messaging…can’t be all things to all people • Need stronger relationships w/NGOs, media, legislators, academia and subject matter experts • Chair role should be held by a communications and marketing executive, not a regulatory executive
Next Steps/HCPA CEO and ACE Board President Recommendation • Beth Ludwick to take on “Interim” Executive Director role given the direct synergies around communications and messaging • Hire a full‐time Development Manager to solicit new industry funding • Promote Haley Diamond to Senior Manager, Communications & Program Development • Embark on a new Strategic Planning Process beginning in January 2019 • Questions/Discussion
