Objectives • Return the Tree Action Plan to the Environmental Committee per October 2, 2018 directive • Briefly review background of Tree Action Plan • No net loss canopy goal • Tree Commission recommends approval at next full meeting of the Board of Supervisors 2
Tree Action Plan – Timeline Year Progress 2006 Current Tree Action Plan approved by Board of Supervisors 2017 Tree Commission and Urban Forestry staff begins update process 2017 - 2018 Stakeholder reviews and community input 2018 Text finalized by Tree Commission and Urban Forestry staff 2018 Endorsement of Tree Action Plan by Tree Commission October 2018 Presentation at Board of Supervisors Environmental Committee (BOSEC) ➢ Several comments from Supervisors needed to be addressed October 2019 Tree Commission sends revisions of Tree Action Plan back to BOSEC 3
Tree Action Plan - Summary • Both a strategic plan and management plan • Plan is not a regulatory document or ordinance • Defines the Urban Forest and its community benefits • Defines threats and stressors to the Urban Forest • Establishes goals and recommendations • Implementation of plan by the Community of Practice 4
Community of Practice “A group of people who share an interest or objective and exercise their ability to work together towards that objective.” 6
Tree Commission recommendation Tree Commission recommends the Board of Supervisors approve the Tree Action Plan at the next full meeting. Urban Forest Management Division staff concurs with this recommendation. 7
