DRAFT Project Overview • In-development since 2008, proposed in- service by Q4-2017 • 333-mile underground 1,000 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission line • Once constructed, the project will: Deliver renewable hydro power to meet the • demands of a growing population and economy Create construction and permanent jobs Create construction and permanent jobs • • Fuel economic growth through lower consumer • costs estimated to be $650 million a year Diversify the fuel supply mix for power supply in • the state Alleviate existing constraints, enhance system • reliability and add Black Start capability for system emergencies Lower greenhouse gas emissions • • Privately financed ($2.2B) capital project • Over $20 million a year in property taxes with an estimated $800,000 per year for Rockland County 3
DRAFT Significant Developments Order Granting Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need – Application filed March 2010 – Public Service Commission approved Article VII Certificate on April 18, 2013 – Broadly supported by Consumer Organizations, Environmental Organizations and State Agencies – The PSC is an independent body charged with determining the public need and environmental compatibility of power transmission projects of this kind 4
