SIGBI at UNITED NATIONS • Our Federation, SIGBI, has Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Committee of the United Nations (ECOSOC). • Enables SIGBI to formally submit information, statements and comments to any of the relevant committees and commissions of ECOSOC .
Directors Without Portfolio • Three Directors Without Portfolio (DWPs) • Role: • - Members of the Federation Management Board (FMB) - Participate in writing the FMB Strategic Plan - Participate in fulfilling the FMB Strategic Plan - Main contact for Federation Councillors and responsible for ensuring two way communication with them.
Main Purpose of the Role of Federation Councillor • To be the Region, Country or National Association representative as a Silent Observer at the Federation Management Board meetings. • To understand and support the work of the Federation Management Board in fulfilling its strategic objectives. Attendance at Board meetings, especially Conference, is important in helping you to do this. • To be the communication channel between the Board and members in the Regions, Country or National Association. • To voice local concerns as well as communicating the Board’s initiatives and decisions.

Role of the Federation Councillor To work as a member of the Federation Consultative • Council communicating with the Directors Without Portfolio (DWPs) as required. To respond to requests for information and contributing to • deliberations and consultations to support the work of the Board. To contribute to the development of strategy and policy • taking advice from the Region, Country or National Association as appropriate.
Role of Federation Councillor To work as a member of a Federation committee. • Councillors are offered a choice, but your committee of choice may not be the one you are allocated. To attend your Region, National Association or • Country meetings to give input from Federation and to report back to Federation when necessary. To phone new members within a given area. • To take part in the induction process and ensure a • good handover to your successor.
Role of Federation Councillor • Your role also includes two-way communication with the DWPs and participating in the workplan activities of the Director of the committee you are assigned to. • How are you getting on so far?
