Transfer to Secondary School in September 2020
Pan London Co-ordinated Admissions System • All 33 London boroughs and 5 surrounding local authorities co- ordinate admissions with the aim of enabling a single offer per child (wherever possible) • One Common Application for all Richmond residents (Home LA) • Single offer of a school place is made by the child’s Home LA
Applying for a place at a secondary school for September 2020 Apply online: easy, quick, secure, reliable – 99% of parents applied on line last year OR Complete the paper Common Application Form List up to 6 preferences for maintained schools or academies in or out of the borough Submit by the closing date of 31 October 2019

Order of preference • List the schools you wish to apply to in the order that you prefer them • Each school will consider your application against their admissions criteria only and not the order you place them on your form • If your child qualifies for more than one school you will be offered the highest preference you qualify for
Deciding on the order of preference Example 1 Preference School Qualify Outcome for place? 1 st The Tiffin Girls No Waiting list 2 nd The Richmond Yes Offered upon Thames School 3 rd Twickenham Yes Withdrawn School 4 th Waldegrave Yes Withdrawn School 5 th Grey Court School Yes Withdrawn 6 th Orleans Park No Withdrawn

Where do Sheen Mount children move on to? See chart of recent transitions. Now approx. 50/50 split with state and independent schools.
Independent schools – selective, fee paying Children will sit an exam and have an interview. Each school is very different and the criteria for children to gain a place differs from school to school, and also from year to year Some of the independent schools offer scholarships and bursaries.
Visit a considered range of schools. Please speak to us if you need any advice.
Independent school reports We make a charge of £25 to enable your child’s class teacher to prepare a report which is required by independent schools. This will be photocopied to whichever schools ask for a report. If you do not wish to pay for a special report to be prepared and written, we are able to supply schools with a copy of your child’s report from the previous year.
PLEASE try to keep disruption for the Year 6 class teachers a minimum by: Only visiting those schools that are likely choices Making sure that your child is out of Sheen Mount for the minimum amount of time for a visit, interview or exam. Maintaining momentum with learning.
Thank you and best wishes for a successful outcome – however daunting it may seem now – everything will work out for the best!
