  1. THE NATURE OF BAPTISM (Lesson 1 of 5 on the Sacrament of Holy Baptism)

  2. THE RECIPE FOR A VALID BAPTISM The only essential ingredients for an officially acceptable baptism are just two things . . . 1) Plain Water 2) Word of God The baptizer does not have to be a pastor or a Lutheran for it to count.

  3. THE WATER  It’s not special holy water but just plain water.  It does not matter how much water is used.  The Greek word“Baptizo” means to wash, (not necessarily to immerse - Mark 7:4).  Sprinkling  Pouring  Dunking

  4. THE WORD OF GOD  It is important that the correct words are said because the power is in the Word of God.  We use the words Jesus gave us to use in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19)  “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

  5. WHAT’S IN A NAME?  The name of the Triune God sums up everything that He is and all that He has done for us and for our eternal salvation.  The three Creeds are a good summary of what’s wrapped up in the name of our Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
