De Beers (working under the name Monopros) discovered the Guigues kimberlite pipe in southern Quebec in 1983. Guigues was the first kimberlite pipe discovered by De Beers in Canada, and the first pipe discovered by anyone east of the Rockies. Guigues did not fit De Beers model for indicator mineral chemistry at that time, nor did it yield enough microdiamonds to their (relatively primitive) tests and they lost the claims by 1990. An analogous story applies to the Victor kimberlite, which De Beers discovered in northern Ontario in 1988. After a minimal amount of testing, Victor also did not fit De beers indicator mineral model, nor yield abundant microdiamonds and De Beers abandoned Victor for the diamond rush in the NW Territories by the early 1990s. In Victor’s case, however, De Beers kept the claims (due to the amount of assessment work credit they had accrued in Ontario) and returned to re-examine Victor in the late 1990s. Due to advances in microdiamond testing and understanding of the importance of eclogite garnet indicator compositions, De Beers soon realized that they had a world-class diamond mine at Victor, now famous for some of the highest quality diamonds of any kimberlite pipe in the world. By this time Tres-Or held the rights to Guigues! Tres-Or has completed ground and airborne geophysics to define Guigues, as well as RC sampling for indicator minerals from the top of the Guigues pipe in 4 places. The geophysics indicates the Guigues pipe is of substantial size covering 5 to 7 hectares. These indicator mineral samples show that Guigues has diamond inclusion eclogite garnets (like Victor!), Cr- pyropes, olivines chromite and diamond stability field chrome diopsides, based on Tres- Or’s and CFM’s data analyses. The Guigues indicator chemistry is similarly encouraging like the Victor Diamond Mine. Now, Tres-Or proposes to drill 5 holes covering the Guigues pipe for modern, high- sensitivity microdiamond tests.
Tres- Or’s Guigues Kimberlite is accessible by paved highways, and located near all required infrastructure and the town of Notre Dame du Nord. GUIGUES KIMBERLITE
Tres-Or completed high-resolution helicopter-borne magnetics and a 3D inversion model in 2015 to better define the pipe. 200 m 6.9 hectare outline
Tres-Or also completed 6 shallow RC drill holes to the top of the kimberlite to collect indicator minerals and further define the pipe.
