The Australia Latin America Leadership Program (ALALP) First ALALP was first staged in 2009 over 12 day period. ALALP designed to build links between Latin American and Australian businesses, governments, trade unions and NGO’s Based on the successful CSC format since 1956 Opening Plenary Sydney – 2 days Three separate field trips Qld, NSW & Vic – 8 days Closing plenary Melbourne 2 days 1
ALALP 2009 36 mid-career (30 – 40 years) high calibre men and women selected from 350+ applicants from business, government, trade unions and the community service sectors selected. Open selection system based on achievements and assessed a potential leaders in 5 – 10 years. 3 Australian Liaison Officers also appointed. Half from Latin America, half from Australia. Theme – “Sustainability in the Context of the Australian – Latin American Business Relationship Focus is to “look, listen and learn”. 2
ALALP 2013 In March 2011, COALAR approved staging of a second ALALP currently scheduled for September 2013. In Australia using same format and structure as ALALP 2009. Aiming to have 4 field trip groups for ALALP 2013 (versus 3 in 2009) or 5 groups funding permitting Total of 48 participants plus 4 LO’s with 4 groups – half from Australia and half from Latin America 4
ALALP 2013 ALALP 2013 again oversighted by Steering Committee of COALAR Board members. Chair - Mr RFE Warburton Initial visit to Chile, Argentina and Brazil on ALALP 2013 by Russell Lansbury over the second half of August next. Further visit to these and other Latam countries planned for the first half of 2012 5
