A Coordinated Community Response model is a group of organizations and service providers working together to achieve common goals related to addressing elder abuse.
“To work collaboratively to address Elder Abuse. “ Vision Statement “Our vision is to have a Coordinated Community Response Model that provides a grass roots approach to efficiently and effectively end Elder Abuse”
Elder Abuse is any action or inaction by a person(s) in a trusting relationship that jeopardizes the health or well being of any older adult causing harm or distress. Elder abuse can take several forms including, financial, psychological or emotional, sexual, spiritual and/or neglect.
The prevalence of REPORTED elder abuse is 8.2% (2015 National Survey). Medicine Hat 11,125 Older Adults 55+ (2016 Census) Or 1640 older adults are being abused. This does not include abuse that has NOT been Reported or abuse occurring in our surrounding rural communities Family members are most often the abusers and Financial Abuse is the most common type of abuse.

Feb 2018- March 1, 2019 -completed two years of required grant work We started with building our committee and a strong foundation to serve Medicine Hat & Area well into the future with; Our Definition of E.A., Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles, Commitment Letter, Goal Planning, Identifying Challenges and Strengths, Organization Contact List, Surveys, promoting World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, building Provincial Connections and Evaluation of our work.
April 1, 2019 – March 31, 2020 We have completed: Elder Abuse Response Flow Chart Logic Model Strategic Priorities From Committee to Coalition Coalition Survey & Focus Questions for Evaluation Expanded WEAAD awareness with a t.v. interview, 2 newspaper articles and resources shared throughout our community
Elder Abuse One Day Workshop This one day workshop was co-facilitated by Shantel & Colleen in the Fall of 2019. It’s Not Right Family Friends & Neighbours • One hour Power point presentations designed for ages older youth and up. This Bystander Training covers what can you do, what the signs of Elder Abuse are and how to keep the door to communication open. • Training people to give the one hour Presentation. Shantel & Colleen co-facilitated this workshop for 20 people last week. Both PCN & AHS participated, significantly increasing the future reach of this education

Have elected a new co-chair to replace Colleen as grant ends March 31, 2020 Re-evaluate and enhance model Hired Sagesse from Calgary to Evaluate the grant and make those important connections with other Provincial organizations
Our Coalition is actively advocating for this position One organization/one person that can walk and support an Older Adult through their abuse, take referrals from community members and service providers and in turn, be supported by the EAPC .
Has sent a recommendation to council regarding the need for an elder abuse case manager, requesting Councils support and advocacy. Victims of Crime Grant
