Supervisor Dean Preston’s Anti-Eviction Measure • Passed with 10-1 vote on 6/9/20 • Permanently prohibits nonpayment of rent evictions during moratorium period when: • Substantial decrease in household income • Caused by COVID-19 • Documented • Applicable Period: March 16 th through July 29 th (unless extended) • Doesn’t relieve tenant of obligation to pay rent • General Civil Litigation • Is this legal????

Rent Freeze Legislation passed by Board of Supervisors on April 21 st • Effective April 7 th , right to increase rent under Rent Ordinance is temporarily suspended • Any rent increases during this period deferred. • New notice must be given after moratorium has ended • Doesn’t impact anniversary date • Still must give the notice to preserve the anniversary date • Include special language in notice • Rent Freeze lasts through June 23 rd (unless extended)
