Original Data Center CHALLENGES: • Customized non-industry standard hardware and software architecture; – Overwhelming majority of hardware was out-of-date; – Multiple instances of hardware failure throughout the 2014-15 academic year – impacting critical services for multiple days—age and heat related event from 2013-14; Heterogeneous environment (variety of data center hardware and hosting – software); Electrical distribution within the space – and improper cooling or not enough cooling; Limited redundancy in backups, – electrical, heating, cooling, and connectivity. 7
