CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING Blackboard Critiques • Blackboard isn't interactive. The discussion boards become crowded and hard to follow. • Blackboard is not user-friendly. • The app is much better than the website. • Professors use it to share documents and collect assignments, but often have difficulty figuring out when they've made documents visible to students. • Discussions online are often a waste - people parrot the same answer instead of having a conversation. • The grading system for online courses is often incredibly complex and checking in every day is time consuming. • Blackboard is not as interactive as it should be. • Blackboard can be messy and overwhelming. I'd like a much simpler and cleaner interface for an online course.
CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING Other Options • Coursera or EdX. • Websites that are designed for online courses. • Any other interactive website. • McGraw Hill Connect (mentioned 3 times), My Pearson Lab (mentioned 2 times). • NO Facebook!!!! • A system that was easily navigable and worked on mobile devices (iPad/iPhone, etc) without having to purchase additional software/services. • Blogs@Baruch. • Anything that doesn't cost anything extra other than tuition. (Connect is a big NO).
