Pinellas County Shore Protection Project BUILDING STRONG  Hurricane Hermine- Approval of funding, acceleration of schedule (Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies Act)  Nearly 900,000 cubic yards of sand needed to rebuild Sand Key Segment; of which 100% federal expense is 350,000cy  70,000 cy for Sunshine Beach (cost shared)  150,000 cy for Upham Beach (cost shared) Trusted Partners Delivering Value, Today and Tomorrow

Public Use and Access BUILDING STRONG  1986 Water Resources Development Act Section 103 (d) prohibits Federal participation in costs assigned to benefits to privately-owned shores where the use of such shores is limited to private interests.  In 1996 the Corps developed a standard template for perpetual public access easements to be applied for all shore protection projects Trusted Partners Delivering Value, Today and Tomorrow

Perpetual Easement BUILDING STRONG  Prior to initial construction of the shore protection project, much of Sand Key was eroded back to the seawall  Easements never obtained  Easement needed over portion of beach lying on private property  Timeframe and schedule Trusted Partners Delivering Value, Today and Tomorrow
