French Immersion • Must take 4 core courses in French in Grade 8, 9 and 10 • Course options at Grade 10 level -Langue Seconde -Sciences Humaines -Sciences -Mathématiques -Éducation à la vie professionnelle *Students who take Éducation à la vie professionnelle 10 may choose to take Science or Math 10 in English if they wish • Grade 11 - Langue Seconde and an approved F.I. Social Studies 11/12 course • Grade 12 – Langue Seconde

  8. Honours Program • Application form required. • Students work at an enriched and accelerated pace. • Improve writing skills and further develop problem solving strategies. • Students will engage in activities that allow them to gain a deeper level of understanding of the topics.

Advanced Placement • Application form required • Minimum % requirement which is course specific • Percentages vary according to subject area • Emphasize a commitment to academic excellence • Develop the study habits necessary for tackling rigorous course work • Study subjects in greater depth and detail • Demonstrate your readiness for post- secondary studies (university or college)

Learning Support Services Learning Centre Courses: • Learning Support 8-12 Modified Programs: • Pre-Employment Program (PEP) • Access Alternate Program Ms. Sara Shahidi, Department Head of Learning Support is available to answer questions at the LSS booth; she also hosted a short presentation in the Library before this presentation

Grades 8-11 Course Selection • Counsellors will make presentations to all students in grades 8-11, Feb 1 – 15 th , in Library • ELL students – presentations will be made in ELL classes at the end of February • Students take forms home for discussion and review; parent/guardian must sign form • Students return all forms and attachments to classroom teachers where course selection took place, by stated deadline • ELL I and II students to return forms to their ELL teacher • Course verifications will be distributed in late April.

Required 48 credits: • Language Arts 10, 11, 12 12 credits • Social Studies/Sciences Humaines 10 4 credits • A Social Studies/Sciences Humaines 11/12 approved course 4 credits • Science/ Sciences 10 4 credits • A Science 11 4 credits • Mathematics/ Mathématiques 10 4 credits • A Mathematics 11 4 credits • Physical Education 10 4 credits • FNA or ADST 10, 11 or 12 4 credits • Career Education 10/ Éducation à la vie professionnelle 10 4 credits 2. Career Life Connections (completed in grade 12) 4 credits 3. Electives (Grade 10, 11 and 12) 28 credits TOTAL 80 credits * A minimum of 16 credits must be at the Grade 12 level. This includes 4 credits for a Language Arts 12 course .

Career Programs Work Experience Elective Options 1) Career Preparation – 4 credit elective 90-hour work experience program aimed at students interested in exploring one or two career areas – completed over grades 11 and 12 2) Industry Training Programs  Youth Train in Trades  Industry Connect  Industry Certification Students earn high school credits by taking focused elective courses all in one area while taking required academic courses at Moscrop 3) Secondary School Apprenticeship Career interest in the trades – student can earn up to 16 credits while being paid for their work with a red seal journeyman

Grade 8 Entry: Registration ENGLISH PROGRAM: Within Catchment area – If currently live in our catchment area and attend a Burnaby public school, registration will happen automatically Outside Catchment area (within Burnaby) – Cross District Transfer Application – Applications received at Moscrop, Feb. 1 – Feb. 28 Outside Catchment area (outside Burnaby) – Out-of-District Transfer Application – Application received at Moscrop Feb. 1 – Feb. 28

Grade 8 Entry: Registration FRENCH IMMERSION PROGRAM: Within Catchment area/Burnaby Schools – If currently living within the catchment area for Moscrop’s French Immersion Program and attending a Burnaby French Immersion school-entrance is through the course selection process Within Catchment area /Outside Burnaby – If currently living within the catchment area for Moscrop’s French Immersion Program, but attending a French Immersion school outside of Burnaby, an Out-of-District application must be completed and received at Moscrop between February 1-28, 2018
