  4. What does high school credit mean? Cumulative GPA? 4.0  1 credit = 1 semester 4 = A of successfully 3.7 = A- passing a course 3.3 = B+ (excluding study hall). 3 = B 2.7 = B-  GPA – grade average 2.3 = C+ of all completed 2 = C courses. Norwell is on 1.7 = C- a 4.0 scale. It does 1.3 = D+ not update until the 1 = D end of each semester. 0.7 = D- 0 = F

Diploma Differences Core 40  Minimum requirement for most 4 year colleges (However, some colleges may require additional math credits beyond the 3 years required for Core 40… Ex.: IU, Purdue).  6 credits of math required (6 credits must be earned in grades 9-12)  Foreign language is not required (However, some colleges highly recommend/require at least 2 years of a foreign language).  40 credits required

Academic Honors In addition to completing all requirements for Core 40, students must: • Earn 6 or 8 credits in foreign language • Complete 8 credits in math including (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus or • Trigonometry/Probability and Statistics) *strong math skills are needed Earn 2 fine art credits • Complete AP and/or Dual Credit classes required or students must meet a minimum score on the • ACT/SAT Earn 47 credits required in which students can earn no grade lower than a “C”. • Graduate with a G.P .A. of 3.0 or higher • Students can take a non-credit study hall each semester of high school and still met the 47 • required credit count for AHD. *Academic Honors is highly recommended for some competitive Indiana colleges.

Technical Honors In addition to completing all requirements for Core 40, students must: • Earn 47 credits required in which students can earn no grade lower than a “C”. • Graduate with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher. • Earn 6 credits in the college and career pathway (Area 18 program). • Earn an industry-based certification or credential, or 6 career pathway dual • credits. Complete AP and/or Dual Credit classes or meet a minimum score on the • ACT/SAT/Accuplacer. *Students can take a non-credit study hall each semester of high school and still met the 47 required credit count for AHD

  15. Important Information • Using your Diploma Requirement Checklist, review graduation requirements for your diploma type and select classes accordingly. Please reference the Course Offerings Guide to view required/recommended Pre-Requisites for classes. • Refer to the http://www.nwcs.k12.in.us/Scheduling.aspx Diploma Requirements, Course Descriptions, and more. • Talk with your parents and teachers about course selections. • Meeting with your counselor.

  16. http://www.nwcs.k12.in.us/Classof2024.aspx  Courses are grouped by department  Note the direction under each department heading  8 th grade teachers provide recommendations to assist in proper placement of students in ELA,  Math, and Science courses. Required Courses and Explanations:  Language Arts  English 9  English 9 Honors – summer homework required, more in depth, teacher recommendation  English 9s – struggling with reading comprehension  Mathematics  Algebra Lab A/Algebra 1 A – 2 year algebra  Algebra 1  Geometry Honors – for students enrolled in Algebra 1 in 8 th grade  * students who took Algebra 1 in 8 th grade and did not earn an A or B are recommended to retake it in 9 th grade. Students need a strong math foundation to complete additional high school math for a Core 40 diploma and beyond.

Science  Biology  Biology Honors – more in depth, teacher recommendation  Earth and Space – encouraged for students who are taking English 9s  Physical Education/Health  PE 1  PE 2  Business  Preparing for College and Careers  Electives  In addition to these 9 required credits, students will select 5 elective credits to fill their 9 th grade schedule. For scheduling purposes, study hall is included in the 5 elective credit count even though a student doesn’t earn high school credit for the class.

  20. Click on pencil icon to view course options for each subject.

  21. Select the course(s) that meets your graduation requirement for each subject. You must press okay after each subject screen. If you are enrolling in an all year course, you must select both semesters. Once you have all required classes selected, you must choose 4 alternate classes. Your total should equal 14.

  22. You are finished when the requesting credit hour number equals 14. Remember you have to choose 4 alternates you would be willing to have if there is a conflict.

  23. Due Dates  8th Grade Parent Night – Wednesday, March 11th @ 6PM  Counselors will be meeting with 8th graders beginning March 16th during science classes.  Come prepared!  Review credit requirements  Select courses on course selection sheet  Enter selections in PowerScheduler
