  1. RI Farm Energy Presentation Renewable Energy Systems

  2. What is Renewable Energy? Renewable Energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale; such as: • Sunlight • Geothermal • Wind • Biomass • Tidal/Wave

  3. Renewable Energy Systems Sunlight Capturing the energy from the Roof Sun and and/or Ground converting it to Mount electricity Solar Arrays

  4. Renewable Energy Systems Geothermal thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth Ground Source Heat Pump

  5. Renewable Energy Systems Wind Energy “First, there is the power of the Wind, constantly exerted over the globe… Here is an almost incalculable power at our disposal, yet how trifling the use we make of it.” _ Henry David Thoreau (1834)

  6. Renewable Energy Systems • Energy generated or produced by living or once-living organisms • Heat and/or electricity Example: • Dairy farms utilizing an Anaerobic Digester • Process on-farm organics (manure & bedding) and if necessary, off-site organics

  7. Where do I start?

  8. Is your farm humming with efficiency and are you now looking into a Renewable Energy System? Choosing a Renewable Energy Installer Resource: RI Office of Energy Resources http://www.energy.ri.gov/policies- programs/for-vendors/renewable-energy-professional.php What grants might my farm operation be eligible for to help offset the total project costs? • Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) • Renewable Energy Fund (REF) • The Rhode Island Agricultural Energy Program (RIAgEP)

  9. Renewable Energy Programs & Incentives • REF provides grants and loans for renewable energy projects with the potential to make electricity in a cleaner, more sustainable manner, while stimulating job growth in the green technology and energy sectors of Rhode Island’s economy. • Renewable Energy Fund (REF) will award grant money based on the rated DC capacity per project. Annie Ratanasim Renewable Energy Fund Program Manager
