Evelyn Casas Ruby Class Biology Major Math & Science Tutor I ENJOY WORKING AS A TUTOR BECAUSE IT ALLOWS ME TO NOT ONLY HELP STUDENTS IN REACHING THEIR ACADEMIC GOALS, BUT ALSO ALLOWS ME TO ENCOURAGE THEM ALONG THEIR ACADEMIC JOURNEY. THE ONE-ON-ONE EXPERIENCE WITH STUDENTS IN A TUTORING SESSION REALLY ALLOWS ME TO UNDERSTAND IF THEY UNDERSTOOD THE MATERIAL REVIEWED, AND SEEING THE MOMENT WHEN THEY FINALLY FEEL CONFIDENT WITH A CONCEPT IS AN AMAZING FEELING THAT IS HARD TO DESCRIBE. AS AN ACADEMIC SUPPORT ROLE, TUTORING IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MOST ENRICHING EXPERIENCES A STUDENT AT NSU COULD HAVE, AND I AM HONORED TO BE ABLE TO WORK WITH STUDENTS AT THIS LEVEL.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer-led student academic enrichment program that offers free, weekly, outside of class organized group study sessions for select historically difficult courses. WHAT IS AN ACADEMIC AMBASSADOR? Shark Teach's overall mission is to engage their peers through the lens of academics. Our goal is to get the NSU community excited about and engaged with their academics. That could mean tabling at SEA Thursday to get the word out about study sessions for midterms or reminding people about registration deadlines. Each class works as a cohort to plan and implement a project or event in their freshmen year designed to elevate academic excellence on campus.
Shark Teach has no academic minor requirement; however, all students take RAZT 1050: Fundamentals of Peer Education in their first semester. All other coursework is determined by your major of choice. A typical course load for a Shark Teach Scholar is between 18-21 credits per semester. YOUR ACADEMIC PLAN
