QA-WBL project proposal A key part of the EU Modernisation Agenda for Higher Education is a reform of Higher Education (HE) to meet the requirements of the labour market with emphasis on relevant skills, qualifications and graduate's employability. The importance of work-based and work-integrated learning is that it helps develop skills and abilities that are fit for finding professional roles. 3
QA-WBL project proposal Project partners chosen according to their expertise in the area and taking into account different perspectives: • Agencies (Unibasq, NVAO), • EU network organisations (ECA, EURASHE), • Student associations (SAMOK) • and HEIs (Arteveldehogeschool, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, TEIWEST, Avans). 4
QA-WBL project proposal Main objetive : to define the key elements to enhancing confidence in work- based learning, focusing on criteria for quality assurance and assessment of work-based learning from three perspectives: • Internal QA-HEI’s, • External QA-agencies, • Students. 5
QA-WBL project proposal Specific aims : • clarifying the concept and defining the scope of WBL in an international perspective, • developing innovative output on both internal QA (of HEI and in WBL) and external QA (how can panels evaluate the quality of WBL and give suitable recommendations) starting with further development of already shared criteria (cfr. Basque Country), • mapping current practices and developing criteria through exchange of good practices (including also the perspective of young and older students), • and exchanging ideas and possibilities for developing competences for QA experts through training. 6
QA-WBL project proposal Main activities (I): 1. Comparison of the different terminologies in order to conceptualize work- based learning while analysing the different stakeholders' (HEIs, students, employers, policy makers) perspectives. 2. Focus groups involving students, employers and HEIs to identify the key principles and critical factors for success to enhance the confidence in WBL. 3. Development of the guidelines for internal and external QA of WBL. 4. Identification of the most adequate profile of experts who would match the developed guidelines and shortlisting of potential candidates for the pilot evaluations to test the guidelines. 7
QA-WBL project proposal Main activities (II): 5. Development of the concept of model training. 6. Pilot reviews to test the guidelines. 7. Disemination conferences (Student representatives, HEIs, QAA, employers, policy makers, both at nationals as on European level). 8
