Characteristics of the Wise Worker
1. He works consistently and hard. Prov. 6:6, “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,”
2. He takes initiative and works well without supervision. Prov. 6:7, “Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler,”
3. He prepares for the future and does not just work for the immediate present. Prov. 6:8, “Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest.”
4. The wise worker patiently and consistently pursues success. Prov. 28:19, “He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!”
5. The wise worker responsibly develops and uses his resources. Prov. 27:23, “Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds; Prov. 27:24, “For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations.” A contemporary application would be that he keeps his work in good order and takes good care of his equipment. The office of a sluggard resembles the field of the lazy farmer (cf., Prov. 24:30–32).
6. The wise worker performs his duties with excellence and even artistry. Prov. 22:29, “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.”
7. The wise worker will enjoy financial success Prov. 10:4b, “The hand of the diligent makes rich.”
8. He will enjoy success and fulfillment in his vocation . Prov. 12:24, “The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.” Prov. 22:29, “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.”
Wisdom Teaches the Value and Use of Finances
1. Wisdom, as the result of listening to God, is the source of Wealth.
