Peace Garden - Design Proposal Ti e Peace Garden proposal is based on the development of the public realm along the Dubline tourist trail. Ti is route incorporates many of the de fj ning historic and cultural heritage attractions of the capital. It is further acknowledged that Peace Garden is situated in a most historic and culturally important area which forms links between di fg erent, bustling parts of the city and this is to be balanced with the refurbishment of the proposed pocket park. It is proposed that the Peace Garden refurbishment will create a place with physical elements such as seating, large areas of greenery and lighting that will make people welcome and comfortable while also accommodate pedestrian circulation patterns by developing more e fg ective relationships between the surrounding architecture and the activities going on in the public streets. Ti e goal is to create a contemporary place that has both a strong sense of connection and a comfortable image. All existing trees are to be removed due to there unsuitable positioning and excessive shading. Ti e trees are to be replaced with fj ve suitably sized specimen trees, one of which will be a large standard specimen London Plane tree situated to the eastern entrance of the space. Ti is will act as a feature tree and will further enhance the existing streetscape. Greening will continue with the boundaries to be planted with low herbaceous planting. Ti e raised retaining elliptical green space will act as informal seating. All areas are to be paved with native Irish materials namely locally sourced granite and blue limestone. Ti is will be in character with the historic fabric of the area. Peace Garden - Part VIII Dublin City Council - 2016
