Where we are in the process… Project Phases Scope & Concept Engineering Design Construction Development • Plans are at 60% complete • Working on obtaining real estate easements • Working through 60% design comment resolution
Project Purpose & Objectives • Create permanent improvements to painted road diet and to address existing speeding issues • Full complete streets project • Our intention is to move forward to construction as soon as possible • To implement as many of the scope elements as possible • If we are unable to obtain easements, the improvements that require those easements will be removed from the project
Major Scope Elements & Improvements • Major intersection redesign at 5 th St and 9 th St. • Driveway and access redesign at 8 th St S • Intersection nubs and drainage improvements • New bus stops • Landscaping in the raised medians and possibly large curb extensions • Paving the section needed for widening • Install new pavement markings and signage • Replacing cracked sections of sidewalk
Critical Easements • 12 Temporary Construction • Working with Engineering and Real Estate • Will be notifying and speaking with property owners very soon
Other Adjacent Projects • Separate from S. Walter Reed Complete Street Project • Bikeshare station in front of Patrick Henry at 8 th Street • Bioretention at 5 th Street (NW) and 9 th Street (SE) • Traffic signal at 7 th Street • Traffic signal at 9 th Street
