  1. Proper Preaching Preparation /” Presentation” 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The Value of Preaching The world no longer recognizes the value of the preacher and the importance of preaching, however, God’s Word says in Romans 10:15, " How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things !" What a privilege and an honor it is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The vessel who has this heavenly, holy, and high calling would almost rather preach than eat. Yet the desire, the joy, and the call alone is not enough; there must be proper preparation and presentation! There is more to preaching than just having some neatly prepared homiletic notes. The preacher may have the ability to sermonize, putting his thoughts down neatly on paper; Yet he may not be able to effectively, forcefully and powerfully deliver them to the heart and spirit of the listener. The whole man (heart, mind, body, soul, spirit) must preach under the anointing of the Holy Spirit in order for the message to be effectively delivered! The preacher must take preaching seriously. He /She should be serious enough about the call to be willing to prepare himself for the task. The Last lesson focused on Proper Preaching Preparation, however, this lesson will focus on Proper Preaching Presentation and Delivery. The root word in Presentation is “Present”; Which means to give, to show, to provide, to introduce, or to make known. The Importance of the Presentation Effective delivery requires three points: 1. What do you want the people to know? 2. What do you want the people to feel? 3. What do you want the people to do? Before a preacher presents a message, they should ask the Holy Spirit to give them understanding of how to Deliver what is written so that they can clearly and encouragingly pass this on to those who will hear the message. L et’s take a closer look at each point. (discussion) 1 Proper Preaching Preparation/Presentation Pastor Dianne Cooper – FGHT, VA & NC

  2. Preaching Vs Testifying There is a difference between Preaching a message from God and Testifying. Preaching is based on the Word of the Lord, “the message” that God is sending to the people. Testifyi ng is based on “our experiences”. Even though it is inspiring to share what we’ve experienced, the message should never be totally about us. Preaching delivers the people. Testifying delivers us. Master the Message This is the most important part of preac hing, “ The message, the W ord from the Lord” . We may all differ in how we prepare and the method of delivery. However, the message must not change. It must be what “ thus saith the Lord ”! The use of subjects or topics are used to keep or bring you back into focus. It doesn’t matter how good the sermon is, if the listener is lost, confused or left hanging then the mission has not been accomplished. When using an outline, make the outline with simple headings; give a brief word or two about what this section is about. Always follow thru with the Scriptures that you are going to use. Reading the Scriptures out of the Bible is encouraged because there is less margin of error, if you read it out of the Bible rather than print it on your outlines you lessen the chance for typos or misquotes. Remember this is not an opportunity for you to prove how smart you are Or how good you can preach, but to get the message to the people correctly! Never totally depend on your written notes, it is important that we depend on the Holy Ghost ! Know what God has said! That’s the basis of the message. So that if you forget your notes, if they fall off the pulpit, or are no longer in chronological order, or you IPad dies, or your notes get lost in Cyber space, at least you have the message in your spirit. Too Many “I’s” mean Too Much “You” Simply put, too many ‘I’s” means too much ‘You’; and too much “you” means not enough God! We should never set ourselves as the standard to be measured by. The bible says that all have sin and come short of the glory of God. Even though we are the vessel for which God is using to deliver the message, we must not forget that we are only the messenger and not above the message! Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing: If the sermon is not biblically centered, Christ elevating, and God glorifying, then what’s the point? If you are wanting to speak about the holiness of God, the need for repentance, the reason for the cross, and the forgiveness of sins, then don’t insert what you think… say what the bible says. 2 Proper Preaching Preparation/Presentation Pastor Dianne Cooper – FGHT, VA & NC

  3. Closing Tips to Remember:  Proper Presentation requires an Effective Introduction, which sets the tone and foundation of the message. Also, it points the people in the direction that you are going.  Stay Connected with the people, Make eye contact with them. Don’t lose them in the delivery.  Start Out like You Can Hold Out/Pace Yourself! When the Holy Ghost is finished then we are finished! Know when it’s time to quit. Don’t make the people glad twice, (glad to see you get up an d glad to see you sit down). You may not get through all of your notes, however, remember, that the Holy Ghost is the leader and we are the follower. Remember: A message should never be built around the exciting of the flesh, but the saving and delivering of the soul. As preachers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we are not just preaching a sermon but delivering a message from the true and living God! The Word of God empowers us, and “ WE NEED THIS POWER ” !!! 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 3 Proper Preaching Preparation/Presentation Pastor Dianne Cooper – FGHT, VA & NC
