The National AHEC Organization The National AHEC Organization represents a network of more than 300 AHEC program offices and centers that serve over 85% of United States counties. The NAO mission is to help its members achieve the AHEC mission through advocacy, education, and research. The AHEC mission is to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals via strategic partnerships with academic programs , communities, and professional organizations. AHEC SCHOLARS Criteria: PROGRAM Must last for a minimum of two years and culminate in the completion of and/or graduation from a degree or certificate program HRSA is requiring Formal application process with defined eligibility AHEC to create and criteria implement a longitudinal program – New cohorts each academic year of the project period (per AHEC center) AHEC Scholars - which will include Interdisciplinary curriculum with discipline-specific points of entry, exit and objectives interdisciplinary curricula that Clinical, didactic, and community-based and team- implements a defined based training activities set of clinical, didactic, A minimum of 40*hours of didactic education outside and community-based of traditional curriculum training activities in A minimum of 40*hours of clinical education must rural and/or consist of participation in team-based training underserved areas for Placements in rural and/or underserved settings a cohort of health professions students. Rural Scholars Program: A Model Pipeline Program Success at LSU Health Shreveport Program Office Eligibility Requirements: • Have a minimum ACT score of 22 and a college GPA of 3.0 or higher • Be a full-time student in a college or university Be from a hometown with a population 20,000 or less • Have been a past AHEC program participant in one of AHEC’s • youth enticement programs, including A-HEC of a Summer, Day with the Docs, M*A*S*H or the LSU Pre-Med Camp And have a demonstrated commitment to return to a rural family • medicine practice in Louisiana
