Apart from whole blood, blood components like packed red blood cell (PRBC), platelet or fresh frozen plasma are used. To find out the types of transfusion in neonatal intensive care unit among the sick neonates.
Neonates who required blood or blood product between 1 st Jan 2013 to 31 st March 2014 were included for the study. The study was carried out at the neonatal intensive care Unit (NICU) at Ad- Women’s Medical college Hospital.

Total 743 neonates were admitted during the study period, 86 neonates (10.9%) Inborn 65(75.58%) out born 21(24.41%). NVD 39 (44.44%) LUCS 47( 55.55%) , .
Their age of admission were from 0 days to 28 days Their weight ranged between 0.864kg to 3.83 kg with a mean weight of 1.64 kg. Gestational age of the neonates ranged from 26 weeks to 41 weeks .Mean GA 35 +4 weeks.

Multiple blood product transfusions are common among hospitalized neonates. Fresh frozen plasma transfusion was highest than that of the platelets.
