DAILY SCHEDULE
DAILY SCHEDULE • March 30 th and April 10 th are district holidays. No school. • “Online” learning will begin Tuesday, March 31 st . • Daily Schedule • Students will not have actual classes on Mondays; however, teachers will post resources, videos, guiding questions, etc. that students will review so that they are prepared for their class on Tuesday or Wednesday. Think of this as a “warm - up.” • Students will have 45-minute classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with 15-minutes between classes. How students interact with the teachers may vary. Some will have lesson content posted (i.e., PowerPoints, notes, videos, etc.) while others will hold live online classes. Live online classes will be recorded so students can go back and review as needed.
DAILY SCHEDULE • Daily Schedule continued • Students will have Thursdays and Fridays to complete assignments for the week. In some cases, a teacher may have students come together during their class period for another lesson. This may vary from week to week. • Teachers will offer office hours between 1:30 and 3:00 each day. Students can email teachers or ask for a LIVE video chat for help on their assignments. • Any assignments assigned are due according to the date the teacher provides. Feedback will be provided to students on any work assigned.
DAILY SCHEDULE • Teachers are preparing lessons that cover critical objectives for each class that still need to be taught. The focus will be on the essential objectives first. • Teachers are basing lessons and assignments on the “less is more” philosophy. • Students are not expected to be “in school” from 8:30 – 3:50. We’ve provided free time throughout the day in order to give students a break. This free time can be used to go outside, read a book, talk to a friend, etc. • Both teachers and students are learning this together – nobody is expected to be perfect and mistakes will happen. • Teachers will communicate with parents and students in the next few days about what to expect for their class. If you do not hear from your teacher by Monday night, please email the teacher.
WHAT IF MY CHILD DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER? • Access to a computer or the Internet is not necessary. • HISD Curriculum Department is currently working on paper-based curriculum that can be used by students who do not have access to a computer or the Internet. • More information on paper-based curriculum is forthcoming.
