Part 25.100 Changes: Subsequent Endorsements 7 25.100 When an educator holds a professional educator license with one or more teaching endorsements and wants to add subsequent content area endorsements or grade levels, the requirements to obtain a subsequent endorsement are outlined below. Distributions- Safety & Driver’s Education 17 Safety & Driver’s Education Distribution On/After December 5, 2019: 18 semester hours of college credit in the field: 3 semester hours in injury prevention or general safety ▪ 9 semester hours in driver education that include: ▪ Driving task analysis (introduction to driver education) ▪ Teaching driver education in the classroom ▪ Teaching the laboratory portion of the driver education course, including on-street teaching under the ▪ supervision of a qualified driver education teacher, advanced driver education, and emergency evasive driving maneuvers 6 semester hours chosen from at least two of the following areas: ▪ First aid ▪ Psychology of adolescents or young adults ▪ Any safety-related issue relevant to driver education ▪ Advanced driver education in the use of simulation and multiple car programs ▪ Health and wellness ▪ Care and prevention of injuries ▪ Issues related to alcohol or drug abuse ▪ Driver education for students with disabilities ▪

Distributions-Gifted Teacher 19 Gifted Teacher Distribution On/After December 5, 2019: 18 semester hours of graduate or undergraduate coursework in gifted education, including a practicum, that addresses: characteristics of the field of gifted education as it pertains to gifted children, including their cognitive, ▪ creative and affective development the wide range of ways in which a child is gifted; issues and practices in identifying and serving gifted ▪ children; and the manner in which assessment data shape decisions about identification, learning progress and outcome theoretical and research-based data necessary for the development of programs, curriculum and ▪ instructional sequences for gifted children, especially those serving gifted students from diverse populations + Gifted Teacher Content Exam

Impact on IHEs: 25.100 21 ▪ Initial Teaching Programs ▪ Requirements remain the same; IHEs must have a full state approved program to entitle for an initial PEL ▪ Subsequent Teaching Endorsements ▪ Any IHE may offer coursework to educators seeking subsequent endorsements ▪ Program approval is not required to offer subsequent endorsements ▪ Exceptions: Endorsements Not Impacted (Slide 20)
Coursework Statement 22 ▪ Reminder: All professional education and content-area coursework for a subsequent endorsement must be passed with a grade no lower than C- or equivalent and be posted on the individual’s official transcript in order to be counted towards fulfillment of the applicable requirements.
