  4. HOW WE DO IT…. All requests for service are triaged by the Senior SPA Practitioners, within a timeframe of 12 working hours All calls are initially taken by a administrator and are then passed to a clinician as required, which are usually responded to within 2 working days In the majority of calls that come through to SPA, the need is met by telephone advice/support, and do not develop into a formal request for service We are the Single Point of Access for CAMHS. We frequently receive requests for service when emotional distress is appropriate to the context. In these instances there is often a more appropriate service that is better placed to meet the need. In these cases, we would make a recommendation and will always provide contact details.

  5. BETWEEN MAY AND SEPTEMBER 2018….. Over 2930 new requests for service were processed Over 1040 telephone consultations were completed At this point, in the majority of cases, we are managing to ensure that for every child / young person there is an outcome regarding their request for service within 3 working days, and we aim to have communicated this via letter to the family and referrer within 1 week.

  6. FOR A QUICK AND SMOOTH SERVICE FOR ALL…. We welcome calls from families and professionals to discuss options of support. With this in mind, please feel free to give out the SPA number. There are instances when it is particularly helpful to have requests for service from you as GPs, which includes your professional view. This is especially in relation to those cases where there is concern regarding psychiatric risk (including suicidal ideation, psychotic symptoms, and disordered eating), and for those vulnerable young people who may have difficulty accessing services. . For situations where psychiatric risk is indicated, please ensure that the parent/carer is aware and that their contact details are provided.

  7. FOR URGENT CONCERNS Please mark requests for service as URGENT when they meet the following criteria: • Severe symptoms of depression with or without suicidal ideas/thoughts • Symptoms of anorexia with over 20% deficit from ideal weight and/or significant physical risk. For all concerns regarding disordered eating, please ensure a height and weight is provided. • Severe unexplained deterioration in emotional state and behaviour at home and school not thought to be due to drugs, alcohol or physical illness. • Assessment following deliberate self harm and presentation at accident and emergency services.
