MoJo Operational Update • Highlight: first innovation challenge complete. Over 300 entries plus lots of community and press buzz. • Over 15 local MoJo events events around the world. Coverage in CBC, CJR, Slashdot, Hacker News, Wired, Guardian. • Progress: very positive partner relationships in place, good pool of applicants to place as fellows. • Next: solidify team and re-factor challenge process. • Also: explore tie in to media web apps work. Web Made Movies Operational Update • Highlight: established partnership Participant Media, they will deploy Popcorn.js on Skoll Forum videos. • Progress: released 3 new Popcorn versions this year, adding YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud plugins + more. • Also: 3 hackfests for filmmakers, more coming. • Next challenge: how do we drive adoption and support filmmakers who want to use Popcorn? 3 June 2011 - Mozilla Foundation Board Slides
School of Webcraft Operational Update • Highlight: new web site / study groups launched. Removes two major adoption barriers. • Progress: April courses start, some courses move to study groups. Result: lower Q2 participation levels. • Next challenge: hire product manager focused on participation and scale. Universal Subtitles Operational Update • Highlight: UniSubs added to Khan Academy (2100+ videos). Represents major new partnership. • Progress: variable language timing and new infrastructure added. Batucada Operational Update • Highlight: Transforming Batucada into Mozilla-wide innovation site for Drumbeat, Research and Labs. • Rebranding “Drumbeat.org” to “Mozilla” — clearer innovation brand. • Will break Batucada up into a set of reusable django apps, rather than a single umbrella project. Hopefully will increase community interest. • Progress: While still modest, community starting to form around the Batucada software. • Patches landed from 9 different volunteer contributors. • P2PU has adopted Batacuda platform, others evaluating it. 6 June 2011 - Mozilla Foundation Board Slides
Mozilla Festival: London Operational Update • Highlight: Mozilla Media, Freedom and the Web Festival confirmed for London, Nov 4 - 6, 2011. • Event will take place at Ravensbourne, a recently opened media and design university in North Greenwich (beside the O2 arena). • Progress: early commitments from MoJo partners and others to play central roll in Festival. • Next challenges: while ahead of last year, we still have a short time to organize the event. • Save the date coming in next 7 days.
