Project Goals ➢ Provide connectivity to other bicycle corridor projects Colter Street ➢ Develop a low-stress/low-volume 20 th Street bicycle/pedestrian corridor ➢ Enhance neighborhood character ➢ Accommodate multi-modal transportation 3rd Street Oak Street while maintaining existing travel lanes
Public Involvement ➢ Interviewed neighborhood groups & key stakeholder groups ➢ Coronado Neighborhood Association - October 2016 ➢ Complete Streets Advisory Board - February 2017 ➢ Public Meeting - February 2017 (65+ attendees) ➢ Surveys – 150+ responses, majority in favor of project
Public Input Highlights Speed is a concern throughout the corridor ➢ Green paint at conflict points is desirable ➢ Additional street trees and landscaping is needed ➢ Drainage improvements are needed ➢ Bicycle improvements should be protected from vehicle traffic ➢ Parking is a concern especially on the north side of Oak St between ➢ 3 rd St. & 7 th St. and 16 th St. & 18 th St
Key Design Elements Maintain existing number of travel lanes ➢ Utilize existing pavement with minor ➢ resurfacing Maximize parking in high demand areas Advisory Bike Lane ➢ Minneapolis, MN Incorporate traffic calming to slow traffic ➢ Incorporate “Advisory Bike Lanes” to allow ➢ parking on both sides
