Background for Retreat’s Discussion Vaccines save lives and money but a large funding gap threatens the Nigerian immunization program • More than 2000 Nigerian children under 5 years die everyday and more than 100 women die giving birth daily in this country • The immunization program faces a large funding gap owing to new vaccines and transition from Gavi support • Similar funding gaps in Family planning, nutrition and other RMNCH. • Economic realities known, affects both federal and states • Health is priority thus concrete efforts needed to address these funding gaps and opportunities abound for sustainable health financing in Nigeria • Sensitization, engagement and discussion with legislators vital for success. 8 Nigeria Immunization Financing Task team (NIFT)
