Introduction Do you want to know what my state is? My state is New York. My state is really interesting you would want to go there. Did you know that my state capital is Albany. In fact the largest city in New York is New York City. The 3 major city's in New York are Buffalo, Rochester & Yonkers. The population in New York is 19,378,102 as of 2010. The number of counties is 62. By the way, the surrounding states are Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
Physical Description Now I would like to talk to you about my Physical Description. Second the area is 53,989 square miles. In fact the largest rivers in New York are the Hudson River, Mowhowk River and Genesee River. The largest lakes are Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The highest point is Mt. Mercy at 5,344 feet above sea level. The national parks are Saratoga & Women Rights Historical Park.
State Symbols and Emblems Talking about my state, you should know where it's name came from. New York's name came from the Duke of York. My state's flag is a dark blue with a coat of arms. On one side of the coat of arms is liberty. On the other it is justice, which is a sign of Revolutionary war. New York's state nick name is Empire State. The state bird is a blue bird. New York's state fish is a native brook trout. The state mammal is a beaver. My state flower is a rose. It's state tree is a sugar maple tree.
State History Now this is my state history. Did you know my states first school opened in the seventeenth century. Did you know New York has been a state since July 26, 1788. Also the Brooklyn bridge opened linking Manhattan with Brooklyn. Finally four presidents were born in my state and there names are Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Jobs & Resources People do a lot of different jobs in my state to get money. You can work in finance, communication, international trading , publishing, fashion, farming & tourism.
Famous People I'm now going to talk to you about the famous people in New York. Eleanor Roosevelt was the First Lady and lived from 1884-1962 in New York. Julia Ward Howe was a social reformer that lived from 1819-1910 in my state. Walt Whitman was a poet in New York that lived from 1819-1992.
Vacations Now I would like to talk to you about the vacations in my state. Did you know you can see Niagara Falls? You can go skiing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, ice fishing and ice skating all in my state. Things you can do when you go on vacation. You can also go to Frosted mountains, shimmering lakes, sandy beaches, and vast area of beauty.
