Name: Katherine Rosenbaum University: University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown Department: Biology Type of Degree: BS Award: 1st place Poster ($100) Katherine Rosenbaum will receive her B.S. in biology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in May of 2015 and plans to continue her education at a Veterinary school. Ultimately, Katie would like to pursue a career in Veterinary Pathology. Katie, along with undergraduates Damian Mosher and Muranda Maurer, are working in the lab of Rebecca Webb on the effect of contaminated water on organismal
- development. They are specifically evaluating the effect of metal contamination on the oral
development and gene expression of the benthic macroinvertebrate Chironomus riparius. By doing laboratory experiments with individual metals, as compared to looking at natural waters that have an amalgamation of contaminants, they are able to make direct correlations between each metal and the effect on Chironomid development.

Name: Nicole Hartig University: Towson University Department: Chemistry Type of Degree: BS Award: 3rd place Poster ($50) I am graduating this May with a double major in Environmental Science and Chemistry from Towson
- University. I have been working in the Urban Environmental Biogeochemistry Lab of Towson University
since the fall of 2012, and my current research is focused on increasing the copper attenuation of a bioretention media by amendment with a cation exchange resin. This research is part of a larger project at Towson University looking at copper attenuation from copper roof runoff using best management
- practices. I plan to continue my lab work at Towson while applying to graduate/PhD programs in pursuit
- f a PhD in Environmental Toxicology.
