  3. The People Club is made up of: • Course Staff: 2 Senior Instructors (SI) • Approx. 12 Instructors & 10 Asst. Instructors • Students: 500+ between June & August • Parents: - of the above students! • Club Staff & Volunteers

  4. The Boats Club boats • 15 Optimists • 6 Topaz • 4 Feva’s • 2 Visions • 1 Laser Own boat • Make sure it is in good working order with all parts present. • (see link/handouts on Oppie Set-Up & Standard Safety Checklist on our webpage) INSURANCE You must have 3rd party liability cover for your boat stored in our Dinghy Pen.

  5. The Courses ISA Training Centre - nationally & internationally recognised courses • Instructor/Student Ratio: 1-8 (with asst.) • Cara na Mara for young beginners • 4 ISA levels in Dinghy Sailing • Adult Sailing • Wind-surfing •

  6. • Logbooks and other requirements (new i-cloud system) • Time on water is of the essence. Emphasis of training is not on attaining certificates. Students prioritise attainment of levels over skills, showing more interest in the cert. rather than the skill. Parents believe they have paid for the cert, and not the skill. - Praise for what has been achieved on the syllabus. Friday Fun Day! Cake Day, Pirate Day, Games Day - prize for best cake etc.

The Rules Rules for students MYC ROCKS! - BASED ON RESPECT, OBEDIENCE, CARE, KINDNESS, SAFETY • Safety : Instructors priority at all times will be directed to ensuring the welfare of all participants. Their instructions, especially whilst on the water, must be complied with. • Equipment & Clothing Care Each participant should have all their clothing, bags and sailing equipment marked with their own name and contact phone no. Participants are responsible for the care and safe-keeping of their own equipment. - For those children using MYC wetsuits, at the end of each day rinse & dry, and put back on the rack - sign back in at end of week. • Behaviour Participants will be expected to adhere to the Club’s Code of Code of Conduct (website) and behave in a respectful manner to other participants, instructors, Club property and equipment of the Club. We would ask all participants to be familiar with MYC’s Policy on Bullying. (see website) • Course Start/End Times: • Arrive at the Training Centre in wet gear ready to go on the water at the stated start time. • Course participants are not allowed off-site for lunch. • Have a good substantial breakfast before coming out. • Mobile Phone Usage

  8. Rules for Parents! – Drop off - ensure timely attendance & sign-in. Leave promptly! – Let the Club know if child is not attending – Accessing training areas & shower areas – Contact with Instructors - Timely pick-up - Please don’t help child with rigging/de-rigging at start/end of day (this is part of their course training) Parents Duty Roster (Parental Participation) - Please sign up for lunch duty where possible.

  9. WHAT TO BRING: (see handout) - Clothing - Lunch - Personal Belongings - Shower gear - Sun protection - Wet bags/tubs 


  10. Communications You want to know how your child is getting on We want to know how your child is getting on * Mid-week debrief with Instructor * End of week debrief with Instructor Your child’s Instructor will be responsible throughout the day, if you have any concerns or if there is a problem, you should first approach the Instructor or Senior Instructor. The Junior Affairs Officer will be available to offer help/advice where necessary. 


  11. Dinghy Sailing at MYC (for members) • Tuesday Fun Sail Night (June to August 7- 9 pm approx) • Thursday Race Night (7 - 9 pm) • Saturday Race/Sail (2 - 5 pm approx.) • Club Boat Rental • Co-Ordinator to help get boats ready and on water • Rescue Cover provided. Local Regattas : children encouraged to participate once they have gained adequate experience & skills. Help is provided to get children & boats to/from events. On the water support provided with the Club Ribs, parents can see their children in action, close-up! • Winter Oppie Training • Spring Oppie Training • Wide - Water Day: August Bank Holiday Monday: BBQ, Fun Sail, Games etc. • Mid-Term Sailing Camp • August Wrap-Up of the Season Fun Week

  12. Cruiser/Keelboat Crewing Opportunity to crew on either of our 2 Club Cruisers for any of our organised Cruiser Events. Indoor Winter Activities: Halloween & Christmas Parties, Indoor Rigging Events, Table- Quizzes etc.
