  2. 2

  3. Colorado River - Hoover Dam – Lake Mead • 4 day water travel time to Imperial Dam • 4 Days Master Order Requirement • Set 24-hour water order (Imperial Dam) 3

  4. Imperial Dam • Completed 1938 (BCA 1928) • AAC 15,155 CFS • IID 6,200 CFS • Yuma Water Users • Coachella Branch 1,000 CFS • 3 Desilting Basins (90% silt) • Gila Main 2,200 CFS • Republic of Mexico 4

  5. Senators Wash Reservoir 5

  6. USBR’s Brock Reservoir • 8,440 AF Max • 1,800 CFS Inlet/Outlet • 6.5 mile inlet canal • Reducing over delivery to Mexico 6

  7. All American Canal 1940 first diversion IID, Coachella Canal, Yuma Water Users 7

  8. Imperial Irrigation District • 1,440 miles of laterals • 230 miles of main canals • 479,000 acres of farmland • 5,600 delivery gates • 1,450 miles of drains • 24 hour water travel times 8

  9. Adjusting to Flexible Water Delivery • Changing from a 24 hour based system to a flexible delivery system. • Efficient irrigation/farming does not always work based on 24 hours at a time. • IID has been on a 30 year transition from 24 hour order “only” system to a more flexible 12/24 hour order system. 9

  10. Water Delivery Flexibility • Water users delivery flexibility demands have increased dramatically as farmers strive for efficiency.  >300,000 acre-feet returned annually from 12-hour deliveries • Delivery flexibility requires increased operational reservoir storage and lateral interties to manage returned water  Main Canal reservoirs, mid-lateral reservoirs, on farm reservoirs  Working on creating a economical/efficient storage combination  Intertie connections to shorten lateral transportation time.  Increase reliance on SCADA – Zanjero Laptops 10

  11. 12 Hour Delivery Total Orders 12,000 10,000 8,000 6,000 4,000 2,000 0 Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 11

  12. Interceptor Reservoir Systems 12

  13. Regulating/Interceptor Reservoirs • 11 Reservoirs • 4,000 AF of Storage • Need to double current storage in the next 10 years. 13

  14. Lateral Interties Reducing Transportation Losses 14

  15. Main Canal SCADA Control • First 40 miles of AAC – Imperial Dam Control Room (USBR Direction) • Remaining 190 miles of main canals, AAC, EHL, CM & WSM 24/7 SCADA Water Control Center (IID) • . 15

  17. Lateral Control - Zanjeros Water is moved using SCADA System (230 Miles)  Laterals 1,440 Miles, Over 3,000 Manual Control Structures,  5,600 delivery gates  Adding Zanjero SCADA control (Laptop control of lateral  headings & monitoring of key sites) by end of 2017. All headings are scheduled for SCADA Control (5 years)  80 headings (120 remaining) 

  19. Projects in Development • 2016 completed 6 new interties, 3 new ones in 2017 • Proposed 5 new main canal reservoirs, 5,000 AF of additional storage • Proposed new interceptor/reservoir system (Save 13,000 AF annually) • Expand Seepage Recovery Project (35,000 AF annually) • Groundwater Storage & Recovery • Discharge Reduction Program (Zanjero SCADA) • 19
