  2. Year 2 Class Names – these birds exemplify our school value of excellence (in being precise when hunting for prey). By using birds as class names we expect to build children’s knowledge and understanding of nature, so developing their respect for the natural world – important for Ark Byron given our future home within the park.   7. The Curriculum  Details are on the website but this term our topic is driven by history - about the history of flight and early airplanes and pioneers.  Our first trip of the year is to the science museum on 25 th September.

  8. Classroom  As a class we decide on our class rules – based upon rights and responsibilities.  We encourage positive behaviour.  Classroom Rules have been agreed – expectations set  Linked to school values and motto  Reward with individual class rewards & certificates of achievement linked to values - weekly assembly  Traffic light system  Exceptional circumstances - being sent out to another class for 10 minutes.  Parents and carers will be kept informed – thank you for your support.

  9. Year 2 SATS  We will be giving you more information about this later in Year 2.  All Year 2 children sit these tests in late May/June.  They are set by the government but are marked by the school.  There are tests in reading, grammar, spelling, arithmetic and maths problem-solving.  These tests will be a natural progression from the termly tests children at Byron sit from the start of Year 1, so should not be daunting.  We will tell you in advance if we need you to provide extra support to your child at home.

Home Learning  Thursday - Please bring in Reading books and Reading records so these can be changed.  Support your child reading a book - these are changed weekly  Please initial or add a comment in the reading record book.  Support your child reading a book - these are changed weekly  Spellings go out on a Friday. We will have a spelling test on Thursday. Please send in the spelling list from that week on the Thursday.  Mathletics – will be set on a Friday.

Shorts white/black plimsolls, white/black socks. PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING !

  14. PE  PE days are Tuesday and Thursday .  Please make sure that the children’s clothes are labelled.  Children wear PE clothes to school on Tuesdays but bring their kit on Thursdays .

  15. Lunch and Snack  Snacks Fruit is provided by the school but you are more than welcome to bring a healthy snack of fruit or vegetable Due to allergies, please make sure that snacks provided from home are free from nuts.  Water bottles are not necessary as we always have water available in the classroom and playground but you are welcome to send your child with a bottle.  Lunch is at 11.50am and the menus are on the website.

  16. Birthdays  Please no cakes nor party bags.  We do a birthday song/celebration at school

  18. Parent help  Attendance – holiday in term time will not be authorised. If you plan to be away it is important for our records that you complete the form available from Miss Watson in the Office.  Punctuality – learning starts immediately so your child loses out and disrupts the rest of the class.  Readers  Trips
