Natuurpunt: • Leading nature conservation organisation in Belgium • Founded in 1933 • Active in Flanders. Natagora in French Belgium. • 115.000 family members in Flanders • 26.000 ha in management, 1st private landowner • 500 nature reserves • 2 million annual visitors/year • 12 visitors centra • 30.000 adult students/year
Natuurpunt: • 6.000 volunteers organised in 180 local groups • 510 professionals of which 250 via social economy • Recognised as official scientific institute • 46 Mio euro year budget of which 40% private funding. • Cooperation with 800 farmers • 40 European Life projects approved • 60 permanent Business partners (Alpro- Lampiris - Mondelez…)
Mondēlez International: • Mondelēz International = Europe’s N °1 in chocolate and biscuits • Brands = mix of global and local heritage brands (Milka, Cote d’Or, Toblerone, Prince, LU, Belvita, Oreo, Cadbury...) • Mondelēz International has developped sustainable programs for cocoa, wheat, palm oil (and coffee) • Created in 2007, Harmony is the European sustainable wheat sourcing program. • It is a partnership with local farmers located as close as possible to the biscuit factories. • The Harmony farmers apply a demanding charter of sustainable farming practices to grow the Harmony wheat.
Biodiversity • Biodiversity = variety of all living species on earth • 2020= year of the biodiversity • 1 on 8 species is in danger • Threats: Climate change – negative urbanisation – intense agriculture – ecosystem destruction – invasive species • Impact on our wellbeing is important: food production – water supply – air filtration – pest reduction…

Cooperation between Natuurpunt and Mondelez. • Natuurpunt has a long tradition of partnerships • Ambition of Mondelez to work with a local partner for Harmony • Common conviction that biodiversity is important • 2 organisations had a positive history with Grany Forest
Approach Harmony: • Sustainable wheat production • Cooperation between producer, scientists and farmers to • conserve water • care for soil management • reduce and prevent the usage of fertilizers and pesticides • Reduce carbon emission • Protect biodiversity by creating flower strips and hedges • Financial bonus for good practices
