Ohio Legislature - Lawyers, Lobbyists & Lawmakers New Legislation, Committee Activity, Pending Bills and Laws Passed Ohio House Bill 242 Prohibits Ohio counties and municipal governments from imposing a fee, tax or other charge on auxiliary containers. Containers are defined in the bill include bags, styrofoam food packaging bottles, cans and plastic drink cups. HB-242 original House version was amended by the Ohio Senate, therefore it must now go back to the lower body for a final vote.

STOP ENACTMENT OF HB 242 BY PREVENTING A FINAL VOTE May 27, 2020: Ohio Senate passes amended version of HB 242. The amendment inserts language which sunsets it provision after 12 months. HB 242 now goes back to the House of Representatives for a final vote. Ohio Speaker of the House, Larry Householder must schedule a vote on the legislation. Next full session of House is scheduled for September 15, 2020.
