Overview of House File 2392 Division I ● Implements the recommendations of the Secondary Career & Technical Education (CTE) Task Force focusing on the redesign of career and academic planning with an “end goal focused on student experience and preparation for postsecondary success.” ○ Meaningful student activities & experiences vs. career guidance software tool (IHAPI) ● Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP) ○ Quality career guidance opportunities through meaningful career & academic planning ○ Well thought out plan reviewed annually and revised to align with student’s career & academic goals ○ Required for ALL students in grades 8-12

District Plan ● District Plan: ○ Designed by a K-12 team: Superintendent, Curriculum Director, Principals, Counselors, CPDL, Teachers, MCC Intermediary ○ Grade level activities meeting each of the five essential components ○ Software tool for student use, approved by the state to support the district plan ○ District must report out percentage of students who complete each essential component ○ Our plan includes PK-12

  4. MCSD Guidance Plan Essential Component 1 Self-understanding: ● Students shall engage in developmentally appropriate inventories and assessments that promote self-understanding, the connection to work, and engage in meaningful reflective activities about the results.

  5. MCSD Guidance Plan Essential Component 2 Career Information ● Students shall research careers based on self-understanding results and engage in meaningful reflection about the findings.

  6. MCSD Guidance Plan Essential Component 3 Career Exploration Activities ● Students shall engage in activities that reveal connections among school-based instruction, career clusters, and the world of work and engage in meaningful reflection.

  7. MCSD Guidance Plan Essential Component 4 Postsecondary Exploration ● Students shall engage in activities to explore relevant postsecondary education and training options related to career interests and engage in meaningful reflection on the exploration experience.

  8. MCSD Guidance Plan Essential Component 5 Career and Postsecondary Decision ● Students shall complete relevant activities to meet their postsecondary goals consistent with the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) and stated post-secondary intention.

  9. Additional Information • Counselors worked on PK-12 College Career and Readiness Curriculum Map • 9-12th ICAN Curriculum delivered in homeroom • Data collection at all levels to determine how curriculum is impacting students • District Team will review District Guidance Plan Data quarterly in 19-20
