• Developed with National Co-production Advisory Group • “Co -production is not just a word or concept, it is a meeting of minds coming together to find the best way forward.” • People are equal partners and able to share power. • People who use services start and finish the work together, and do not come in half-way.
Why use “I” statements? • The statements remind In tough times we professionals that people who need use services and patients are something to at the centre of all we do. aspire to…. • All organisations across Health and Social Care have one thing in common - whether they are called patients, residents, families or customers or people who use services – all are working with and for people.
For example:
Progress so far • 630 organisations registered • Half of all councils • 20% of MIR orgs in the NW • Increase in number of action plans being uploaded (15% of all orgs) • Increase in number of organisations sharing their learning through the website. • Now preparing an evaluation to see how much of a difference MIR is making.
National support events and networking • Events with Skills for Care (MIR & workforce) • Workshops with SITRA (MIR & housing) • In control - action leaning sets / information events • Regional programmes across England • Carers and Young Carers events co-produced with ADASS, Carers UK & Carers Trust (MIR for Carers and Young Carers) • Older people/dementia events (MIR for people with Dementia) • Working with other partners including providers including United Kingdom Home Care Association and Care Providers Alliance • Making it Real for people with complex needs (VODG) • Making it Real in mental health • Joining up with National Voices & the narrative
• A joint initiative between Carers Trust, TLAP and ADASS • Coproduced with carers and their organisations • Issues raised, words used and approaches suggested come direct from carers • Includes practical examples • Can be used to help compare what’s happening locally for carers and identify what could be done better.

Surrey County Council – have built their local accounts around the Making it Real I statements and themes
MacIntyre – have embedded MIR into staff training and development As a corporate supporter of TLAP I needed to put my money where my mouth was and be part of Making it Real so that we as a charity could learn from it.” Bill Mumford

Action on Hearing Loss “Individual services will have the kitemark rather than the organisation as a whole. It will mean that they can be proud of what they have achieved and we hope that, over time, all our services will have earned the kitemark. Action on hearing loss .
Nottingham Community Housing Association We felt that we lacked organisation to begin with and had some teething issues that became apparent. Service users now seem to enjoy the day and value its opportunities. For many individuals the reduction in day centre placements was felt keenly. This new activity based day has lead to more positive behaviour and increased skills development.
North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group The CCG wants to work in a different way; it wants to give a commitment to ensure that those providing and receiving care work together to plan and implement services in the areas where those individuals have most interest and knowledge.
