SUICIDE-PROOF YOUR HOME § Based on overwhelming research that shows “how” a person attempts suicide—the method they use— plays a key role in whether they live or die § Developed in partnership with the Rhode Department of Health through a grant from SAMHSA’s Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention program. § Provides parents with practical steps they can take to limit their child’s access to the most lethal and most common methods of suicide, such as medications and firearms.

IS YOUR HOME SUICIDE-PROOF? § Successfully piloted in Rhode Island and has since been implemented in other states, including Nevada, New York, Colorado and Texas § Nearly half (43-46%) of parents surveyed reported seeing the campaign § 49 percent of parents who recalled the campaign were considering or had already made changes to suicide-proof their homes § 95 percent of parents believe it is important to suicide-proof their homes

ASKING SAVES KIDS § Developed in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics § Encourages parents to ASK, “Is there an unlocked gun in your house?” before their children visit other homes § Goal is to make ASKing simply a part of responsible parenting, such as car seats, bike helmets and safety latches on cabinets
