  8. PROJECT OVERVIEW • Project Mission Statement: Micro- g’s mission is to develop tools for NASA which will be used in a micro-gravity environment. The end goal is to generate new technology that will be used in future spaceflight missions, having a significant impact on the world of manned spaceflight. • Project Objectives: The objective of Micro-g is to design, manufacture, and test an Extravehicular Camera Mount to be used by NASA. For this semester, the team will submit a Test Equipment Data Package, Proof of Concept Video, and Test Readiness Review prior to traveling to Houston for the final test week in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL). 17. DESIGN REVIEW Overview

  18. DESIGN OVERVIEW Prototype V2 Prototype V3 Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  19. PROTOTYPE V2 • Two switches engage/disengage the pawl • Springs provide the tension to create the moment to hold the switch in locked/ unlocked position • If one switch fails, the other can still lock the mechanism Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  20. PROTOTYPE V3 • One switch to engage/disengage the pawl • Constant force spring on the other side of the double gear • If the one fails the other is able to keep the clamps shut Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  21. DESIGN REVIEW Constraints

  22. DESIGN CONSTRAINTS • With Micro- g’s budget, the EVA camera Micro-g NExT Requirements mount will be manufactured from The device shall attach to at least two of three interfaces 1 cheaper test-ready materials 2 The device shall include a 1-fault tolerant attach method 3 The device shall use only manual power • To be consider for flight, the camera The device shall allow for camera pitch and yaw mount was designed to fit all three adjustability of ± 45˚ 4 interfaces The device shall be able to pack within 12" x 16" x 18" 5 6 The total must be less than 15 lbs. 7 Device shall be made from NBL approved materials 8 Device shall allow a GoPro to mount to it 9 Pinch points should be minimized Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  23. DESIGN REVIEW Current Design

  24. CURRENT DESIGN • Decided to continue with prototype V2 due to constant spring causing issues • Reduces pinch hazard caused by constant spring • Simpler to assemble Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  25. CURRENT DESIGN • Current design uses a double gear • Larger gear moves both sliding arms the same length and in the same direction • Pawl engages smaller gear to lock the sliding arms from opening while attached Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  26. DESIGN REVIEW Proposed Changes

  27. PROPOSED CHANGES • Removed away from pin design • Added switch system instead of traditional ratcheting system • Removed end of the sliding arm to ease manufacturing/assembly Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  28. DESIGN REVIEW Design Risks

  29. DESIGN RISKS • Risk 1: Missing NASA deadlines for Micro-g NExT • Mitigation 1: The Micro-g timeline has been advanced • Risk 2: Key component failing during testing at the NBL • Mitigation 2: Conduct comprehensive testing and analysis prior to May • Risk 3: Design flaw resulting in failure to meet requirements • Mitigation 3: 3D print and test prototype version prior to final build Make to Innovate (M:2:I) Spring 2019

  30. BUDGET Status and requests
