Living in Glass Houses Kevin Melchionne
Living in Glass Houses By Kevin Melchionne Pages: 228,229,230,231,232 The chapter is about aesthetics and the interior. Philip Johnson’s design is mainly hyper -organised interior environment. The famous Glass House is located in New Canaan. The Glass Houses walls are made out of plate glass. This piece is an example of high modernist Architecture and Interior Design. The Glass House has a high number of visitors that debate if this property could be used as Domesticity or inhabit to live in. The whole concept is about if WE CAN LIVE HAPPILY WITH ART OR SOME CANNOT LIVE HAPPILY WITHOUT IT! Example - some can not live in Art or even in a White cube… Environmental Aesthetic of Domestic space. The arguments in this chapter is mainly about if it is Livable or Unlivable and also if its an Environmental Art or Domesticity Environment. The Qs asked…. Do you think Philip Johnson used this piece of work to promote himself as an architect or to prove a point on aesthetics.??? The conclusion I have come to is, the difference between an environmental aesthetic and domesticity. Some people may not be able to live in an environmental art space but someone that is single and doesn’t have a overload of thing to do can do. We should always have thoughts and more ideas about our interiors. It also shows how much he protects his work and wouldn't change anything about it or even add anything in to it. Which means you should always respect your own work and others too.
The impact on my understanding of Spatial Design is how important it is to use space for Domesticity and Environmental Aesthetics. Spatial Design is not just about the interior its also about exterior. Also every space has to be prepared for everyone and anything. The living in Glass Houses taught me how much you need to think about reviews and how well you use your space to expect everyone's needs even if this is to do with Art.
