A Cross-Sector Perspective to Tackling FOG and Sustainability The British Water story so far since 2010 FOG Forum Working Group – stakeholders • To reduce FOG compounds in sewers & internal drains • Educate consumers & operators • Promotion of FOG for recycling • Promotion of best practice • Informing for effective legislation & regulation • Launched Food Service Industry Code of Practice in 2014 • FOG Conferences since 2015 • Rebranded to FOGWISE in December 2020 – cross-industry • Catering Equipment Suppliers Association, Building • Engineering Services Association, Society of Public Health Engineers, Renewable Energy Association, Grease Contractors Association, Foodservice Consultants Society International, Sustainable Restaurant Association, UK Hospitality, The National Federation of Fish Friers…

A Cross-Sector Perspective to Tackling FOG and Sustainability Continued: -The Grease Contractors Association – established in 2015- -17 members + Supporting organizations • Develop & promote best practice • Assist in R&D for products & services • Influence and advise on legislation and regulation • Educate consumers and stakeholders on their role in FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) reduction • Provide a networking forum • Bring clarity, understanding, credibility and transparency to the industry

A Cross-Sector Perspective to Tackling FOG and Sustainability Now: GCA Best Practice EN1825 Separators- passive grease traps • CESA collaboration with Code of Practice GRU • FOGWISE update on British Water Code of Practice • Water companies, designers and others influencing change • What is needed from GCA perspective: Clarity needed on sizing criteria – GCA is working on this • Strengthen ability of WaSCs to carry out maintenance checks • General FOG Awareness training / certificates for operators • Engagement of the WaSCs with industry to vet contractors and • work together to achieve shared objectives FOG to be recognized as a food waste • Tighter regulation – Dublin City Council model? • Consistent, clear messages • FOG rating included in hygiene scheme •
