Plastic Pollution • Recycling is not a sustainable option anymore. • Over 90% of plastic in the world is not being recycled but thrown in our oceans and on our coast lines. • 12 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans each year (26.5 billions pounds of plastic). • Plastic production is increasing each year.
Effecting the animals and Us • Plastic is injuring and killing fish, seabirds and marine mammals. • It kills up to a million seabirds a year. • Research indicates that half of sea turtles worldwide have ingested plastic and some starve after mistakenly thinking they have eaten enough because their stomachs are full. • Oceans serve as the world’s largest source of protein, with more than 3 billion people depending on the ocean but researchers are finding that many fish have ingested plastic pieces.
• Non profit organization focused on the conservation of Bermuda’s ocean and coastlines. • Sustaining Bermuda through education, community events, and partnerships.
