Important Presentation Disclaimer ***This presentation contains policies that are generally in place when typical in-person learning is occurring. The 2020-2021 school year presents unique challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 8th Grade Honors Algebra course at LPHS will be only offered through 100% remote instruction. The policies and procedures detailed in the presentation that are specific only to in-person instruction have been labeled accordingly.

Purpose Offer high school credit to 8 th graders upon the completion of the Algebra 1 Honors course. Extend opportunities for advanced math or non-math courses in future high school years.
Earning High School Credit In order for the student to earn high school credit and have the course grade calculated into their high school GPA he/she must have a: Minimum of 70% earned for a course grade • Any student not reaching the goal will not receive high school credit for Algebra 1 Honors and will not have the course grade calculated into the student’s high school GPA. Since the course taught with an Honors Curriculum, the grade will be weighted.
Future Mathematics Courses The table below is a general guideline for a student’s future enrollment based on achievement in the 8 th grade Algebra 1 course. This table serves only as a guideline for future course placement and does not guarantee that a student will be placed into the freshman year course associated with the 8th Grade Algebra I course grade. Teacher recommendations and other anecdotal information may be utilized to more accurately place a student in subsequent mathematics courses.
Student Grade Portal Parents will be able to access their child’s grades through PowerSchool, the online grading portal. Each student and parent will be given login access so they can track the progress of their students.
Discipline Policies While we do not expect there to be any discipline problems, please note the following interventions/outcomes for discipline: Cheating – Zero for the assignment/test with no possibility for make-up; Phone call to parents and home school. A second occurrence will result in the student being dropped from the class. Misbehavior – Phone call to parents and home school. Persistent issues will be reported to the home school’s administrator in order for him/her to determine the consequences. If misbehavior continues, the student may be dropped from the class.
Student Attendance All student absences will need to be reported to the LPHS Attendance Office. (Only applicable for in-person learning) All students will attend class based on the LPHS Calendar. Students will also take semester exams based on this calendar. (Only applicable for in-person learning) If the student’s home school is not in session, the student will still attend Algebra (remotely) at LPHS.
Curriculum With the goal of the course to help our students reach the higher level math courses, this course will be taught using our Algebra 1 Honors curriculum. The goal is for students to be ready for Geometry Honors in the Fall of 2021.

Grading Policy Semester Grade – 100% of Course Grade 70% - Outcome Assessments (Unit Tests) 25% - In Class Work (Mini-Quizzes, entrance/exit tickets, etc.) 5% - Homework Exam Grade – 0% of Course Grade There will be no Semester 1 Exam for 2020-2021 school year. A+ 100 – 97 B+ 89 – 87 C+ 79 – 77 D+ 69 – 67 F 59 – 0 A 96 – 93 B 86 – 83 C 76 – 73 D 66 – 63 A- 92 – 90 B- 82 – 80 C- 72 – 70 D- 62 – 60
Assessments All unit and final assessment will be provided by LPHS. All students in 8 th grade Algebra 1 will take the SAME common assessment as our Honors Algebra 1 courses.
Homework Policy Student’s Responsibility Will be completed using IXL.com, DeltaMath, or paper Will count as 5% of the student’s grade Entry ticket into retaking assessments
Test Retake Policy Complete 85% of homework by the day of the test Set up a time to make test corrections remotely with teacher All math labs are available to 8 th graders - (only applicable for in-person learning) Within 10 school days of original test retake the exam New score will be the score counted for a grade
Technology Students will be issued an LPHS email account and LPHS network access. Students will also use 8th grade Algebra Google Classroom regularly. Edgenuity will be utilized to provide students with a robust curricular experience. Usage of this technology will require the completion of the District’s technology forms. If the student’s middle school doesn’t provide technology (i.e.: Chromebook) then students will use LPHS technology. Students will be subject to the LPHS Technology Policy.

First Day of Class Attendance The first day of student attendance for 8th Grade Honors Algebra I will be Wednesday, August 19, 2020 All 8th Grade Honors Algebra students will meet remotely with their teacher each day that LPHS is in session. Teachers will communicate other logistical information out to their individual students in the coming days.
