Policy development • New process (PDP) since last year introducing expedite process. • 2 co-chairs: • Francisco Arias (Mexico) • Nicolás Antoniello (Uruguay) - elected in May 2009.

Policy Under discussion: • Being implemented: • LAC-2009-01 Global Policy for the allocation of IPv4 Blocks to Regional Internet Registries • LAC-2009-02 IPv6 Allocations to ISPs or LIR with previous IPv4 allocations • LAC-2009-03 ASPLAIN notation for 32-bit ASNs • LAC-2009-05 Allocation of 16-bit only ASNs • LAC-2009-06 Resource Recovery • LAC-2009-07 Modification of the minimum initial IPv4 allocation size for ISPs to a /22 • To be ratified by the Board: • LAC-2009-08 Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) Policy for Allocation of ASN Blocks (ASNs) to Regional Internet Registries

LACNIC XII meeting • Held in Panama City, from may 24th - 29 th , 2009 • More then 300 persons from 40 different economies • Tutorials (IPv6, BGP, CSIRTs, IXP) • Presentation of the AMPARO project: Provides training and promotes the creation of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) • Presentation of SIMON project: Measurement project for the region.

LACNIC CARIBBEAN 2 meeting • July 16-17, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago • 70 attendees • 17 countries of the LAC region • Foster a greater participation of the Caribbean members • Analyze security and policy issues in the region • Participation in the CANTO meeting and trade exhibition.

IPv6 Tour 2008-2009 • Countries visited: TT, AN, DO, PA, PE, BO, EC, CO, PY, BZ, NI

FRIDA Program FRIDA - Fondo Regional para la Innovación Digital en América Latina y el Caribe FRIDA - Regional Fund for Text Digital Innovation in the Latin America and Caribbean • New call for ICT research projects • Opened August 5th, Closed October 5 th , 2009 • Information published at: www.programafrida.net/en/

Other activities • Outstanding Achievement Award • LACNIC initiative • Aims at honoring and rewarding individuals who made contributions to the development of the Internet and the IS in the LAC region • First edition, 2009 presented to Ms. Ida Holz (Head of the Central Computer Service of the University of the Republic, Uruguay)

Public affairs • Government working group • Facilitate comm. w/gov. regarding Internet resources admin. • 1 st meeting held in May, Panama. 2 nd meeting, August, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. • Currently 15 countries represented • Co-organized 2 nd IGF prep. meeting of the region • 11-13 August, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil • 110 participants

Public affairs • Organized CITEL (Organization of American States) Workshop on Regional interconnection (Bariloche, September 2009). • Working on the organization of several workshop for the IGF.

+RAICES Project • Installation of the 1st root server in the LACNIC Caribbean. 6th in the LAC region • Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, July 9, 2009. • ISC, LACNIC and OC-IX

Engineering Projects • RPKI (Resources Public Key infrastructure) • Being involved on discussions in coordination with other RIRs • Beta RPKI system for members by march 2010. • DNS Platform Upgrade / DNSSEC deployment. • Getting ready for DNSSEC deployment. Already signing lacnic.org and programafrida.org domains. • Getting ready for larger amount or requests.
